Bruce Power operates the world’s largest single-site nuclear generating station — 8 CANDU units, roughly 6,550 MW, and about 30% of Ontario’s electricity.
Given that scale, Jeff led the inventory optimization initiative from inside the plant. He’ll talk through the journey candidly: what worked, what didn’t, and what he’d do differently in a nuclear-grade environment where a stocking decision is also a reliability decision.

By separating excess stock from critical stock before making any reduction. In other words, the goal is not a smaller inventory number, it’s a better-allocated one: identifying duplicate, obsolete, and overmax materials that can be released, while confirming that spares tied to critical equipment are actually covered. For example, Bruce Power shares how it approached that balance across eight units.
How is AI used for MRO inventory optimization?
AI is used to harmonize fragmented material master data across sites and systems, detect duplicate parts created by inconsistent naming, score material criticality against equipment records, and recommend right-sized min/max levels. Specifically, this session covers where AI fit inside Bruce Power’s existing environment and workflows.
Does AI replace ERP or EAM systems like Maximo?
No. Instead, the approach discussed in this session layers on top of existing ERP and EAM systems rather than replacing them. In practice, material, equipment, and consumption data stays in the system of record; the AI layer analyzes it and returns recommendations for review and approval.
